HOLTSFORD GILLILAND is the sucessor to a firm formed on June 1, 1989 by Chip Nix and Alex Holtsford. Chip and Alex began practice with one legal assistant. Within a few years the firm had grown to a highly respected civil defense firm with over a dozen lawyers. Mr. Nix and Mr. Holtsford had practiced together for a number of years in a large, full service law firm before forming the predecessor firm. Instead of a full service firm, however, their vision for the firm was that of a sharply focused firm with skilled litigators and problem solvers committed to defending civil matters. In the years since its inception, Holtsford Gilliland has remained faithful to its vision and has earned a solid reputation for depth of experience and expertise in the defense of civil cases.

HOLTSFORD GILLILAND is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating afforded to a law firm by that organization.  Each of its attorneys is very active in State and local legal activities.  For example, Alex Holtsford, a firm founder, was elected by his peers as the 2000 President of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association (ADLA), an organization of more than 1,200 Alabama attorneys practicing in the area of defense litigation.  Through the ADLA and other organizations, the firm maintains close professional ties with attorneys who practice civil defense litigation.   Our attorneys also pride themselves in participating in local charitable, youth and religious activities.   

HOLTSFORD GILLILAND limits its focus to enhance its skills and better serve its clients. The firm's philosophy is that, because of the broad and diverse nature of law practice, generally, a firm can be efficient and effective only by working in a carefully chosen practice area. Holtsford Gilliland's chosen area is case resolution through litigation, negotiation, mediation and arbitration.
